Course Preview – Lesson 1: Your Business at a Glance

Lesson 1: Create Your Business Snapshot

🕒 Estimated time: 30–45 mins

What You’ll Learn

By the end of this lesson, you’ll have a clear, simple intro to your business — a short version you can share with ChatGPT any time you start a new chat.

This snapshot gives the AI the context it needs to actually help you — without you repeating yourself every time.
Later, you’ll build a more detailed summary. But today, we’re just setting the foundation.

Quick Reminder

You’re the boss.
AI is your assistant.
It’s here to help — but your ideas, values, and experience lead the way.
This step helps your assistant get to know you, so it can truly be useful.

What We’re Doing Today (1 Simple Step)

Think of this like writing an “About Me” your AI assistant can reference whenever you need help. Let’s get your foundations in place.

Step 1: Write Your Business Snapshot

Teaching Moment

Imagine you’re introducing yourself at a casual networking event. You’re explaining what you do — simple, relaxed, no pressure to impress. That’s the energy we want here.

Getting this clear means ChatGPT can support you faster and more accurately in the upcoming lessons.

👉 This is not your full Business Summary — that’s coming later.
This is your quick, helpful overview, and it’ll save you tons of time.

âś… What to Include in Your Snapshot

  • Your name and your business name
→ Use whichever version of your name you normally go by with clients.

  • What your business does — in simple terms
    → For example: “I’m a florist,” “I’m a coach,” “I sell handmade candles online.”

  • Whether your business is online, location-based, or both

  • The main types of products or services you offer
→ Think broad categories like workshops, courses, coaching, consulting, or products.

  • Who you serve — just a general idea for now
→ For example: “Busy mums,” “small business owners,” “people who care about sustainable fashion.”

  • Why you started your business
→ This helps the AI understand your purpose, motivation, and values.

  • Your long-term vision — what you want your business to become
→ Think about your lifestyle, income, or impact goals.

  • Why you’re taking this course
→ e.g. “I want to create a clear marketing plan,” or “I feel overwhelmed and want to simplify things with AI.”

  • Anything else you think is important for AI to know right now.

Example Snapshot

“I’m Jason, a freelance marketing support specialist helping solo business owners — like coaches and service providers — simplify their online presence and feel more confident about their marketing. I offer flexible services like strategy sessions, content help, and email setup. I started this after years of admin and tech work because I love helping people cut through the noise. Long term, I want to build a business that supports my family and gives me the freedom to travel. I’m doing this course because I want to get more focused and build a real strategy that actually works.”

Your ChatGPT Prompt (Copy & Paste)

Copy and paste the prompt below into your ChatGPT chat.

ChatGPT will guide you by asking one question at a time and summarising what it learns after each answer. If something doesn’t sound quite right, you can correct or expand your answer before moving on — just try to keep all your answers in one message so ChatGPT keeps the full context.

Hi ChatGPT. I’m taking a course to help me organise my brand strategy, build my 12-month marketing plan, and get support with content and marketing tasks.
You are my business and marketing assistant. Your job is to help me with this process step-by-step. To start, I need your help writing a simple introduction to my business.
Ask me one question at a time to help build this snapshot. Here’s what should be included: - My name and my business name
- What my business does (in simple, everyday words)
- Whether it’s online, location-based, or both
- The main types of products or services I offer
- Who I serve (just a general idea for now)
- Why I started this business
- My long-term vision for the business
- Why I’m doing this course
- Anything else useful for context
If any of my answers aren’t clear, ask me follow-up questions. Let’s go step by step until we create a version that feels right.

Refining the Draft

Once ChatGPT gives you a draft of your Business Snapshot, it’s time to shape it into something that truly sounds like you.

Here’s how to get the best result — quickly and clearly:

  1. Check for natural flow:
→ “Does this sound like how I’d explain my business to a real person?”

  2. Ask ChatGPT to reflect and improve:

    • “Please review what you wrote and suggest one or two ways to make it sound clearer or more natural.”

    • “Make this sound more like me — relaxed, confident, and conversational.”

    • “Can you highlight anything that sounds too formal or generic?”

  3. Tighten the message:

    • “Make this shorter but keep the meaning.”

    • “Can you combine the last two sentences so it flows better?”

  4. Check accuracy and completeness:

    • “Is anything important missing based on the information I gave you?”

    • “Does this reflect what I actually do and why I do it?”

💡 New improvement: ChatGPT can now “self-check” your draft — meaning it can analyse its own text and suggest refinements automatically. Use that power to your advantage.

Optional Extra Prompts to Refine Further

  • “Can you rewrite this as if I’m explaining it to a friend?”

  • “Add a little more warmth and personality.”

  • “Simplify the language — I want it to sound clear and easy to read.”

  • “Can you create two versions: one casual, one slightly more professional?”

Remember: this is your first layer. We’ll expand and polish it as we move through the course.

đź’ˇ Bonus Tip

If ChatGPT seems confused or repetitive, try:

  • “Can you rephrase that question?”

  • “Let’s start that part again — here’s what I meant…”

You’re always in charge — just like you would be with a real assistant.

Save Your Work

📍 Copy your final version into your Google Doc called
Brand & Marketing Strategy → Section 1: Business Snapshot.

Then, ask ChatGPT:

Can you summarise my Business Snapshot into one short paragraphs to go into my Business Summary Prompt?

📍 Paste that summary into your Business Summary Prompt Google Doc.
